To identify causes and solutions the loss of biodiversity should be viewed from an economic perspective. That is one of the findings of scientific analyses.

The Taskforce Biodiversity and Natural Resources was guided by the outcome of a global study, The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB).  This study maps and disseminates the actual economic value of ecosystems and biodiversity.  Based on this study the Taskforce wants to raise several fundamental issues such as the cost of biodiversity, the approach to perverse subsidies and the tapping of new funds for the protection of biodiversity.
